Sort Waste
We hide our waste, as if refusing to face the obvious: it all starts with the packaging of the products we choose to buy.
Then it’s locked away in bins or containers, before being treated and recycled for some, or buried, exported, or even burned for others.
If every household had to store all its waste at home, or burn a single pile once a year, we would see our waste… very differently.
Why is it good to sort waste ?
A significant portion of waste can be reused: some becomes new packaging, others are turned into recycled materials, and some are used as fuel in industrial furnaces. Even the simplest actions, repeated by everyone, help reduce our impact on the planet.
How to sort waste in Vaujany ?
At home, 300 residents live alongside up to 3,500 tourist beds: during peak season, the volume of waste skyrockets.
Locals and visitors alike can help!
Every type of waste has its place: glass, cardboard, recyclable packaging, organic waste… and of course, general household waste. It’s a small effort at first, but it quickly becomes a routine:
By putting each item in the right container, everyone helps collection run smoothly and keeps the surroundings clean.

How to compost in Vaujany ?
n Vaujany, the commune provides compost bins, mainly around Grand Vaujany.
By putting our organic waste into these composters, it doesn’t have to be transported by truck, reducing overflow, transport, and odours.
This simple action can cut around 30% of the waste a family of four would normally throw in the general household bin—over 300 kg of organic waste per year.
Composting on site also lets us see the direct impact of our choices and actions, and how organic waste can be reused and valorised.
The resulting compost nourishes green spaces and gardens.

Let's reduce our waste
In Vaujany, reducing waste means adopting simple habits to cut down on packaging and avoid waste: repair what can be fixed, borrow or rent what doesn’t need to be bought, and compost or sort waste to turn recyclables into resources. A little tip: invest in a reusable water bottle—the tap water is sourced close by.
When repeated by everyone, these actions genuinely change the way we deal with waste, in the mountains… or anywhere else.
