Visuel GFNY La Vaujany : ambiance, coureurs souriants au ravitaillement

On 21 June 2026, the alpine roads around Vaujany will welcome cyclists from all over the world for a spectacular day in the high mountains.

An international cycling event in Vaujany

The GFNY (Gran Fondo New York) is an international cycling series held across several continents, bringing together thousands of riders each year on some of the world’s most iconic routes. In Vaujany, the event takes on a distinctly alpine character, set in the heart of the French Alps, between legendary mountain passes and breathtaking high-altitude scenery.

A full day of cycling in the mountains

From the start to the finish in Vaujany, riders tackle a demanding mountain course, followed throughout the day by spectators positioned along the route, in the passes and at key viewpoints across the massif. The experience unfolds across the mountains: lakeside roads, traditional alpine villages, long climbs and panoramic ridgelines all form part of the atmosphere.

Immersion in the great Alpine passes

Each section of the course offers a different atmosphere. Forested slopes, open valleys, high mountain lakes and exposed summits create a constantly changing backdrop. From Lac de Grand’Maison to the Croix de Fer and the famous switchbacks of Vaujany, there are numerous places for spectators to cheer on the riders in a truly spectacular setting.

The long course

  • 118 km / 4,000 m of elevation gain
After a neutralised descent from Vaujany, riders quickly face the first major challenge: the climb of the Col de la Croix de Fer (2,067 m). They then descend towards Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne before tackling the Col du Glandon (1,924 m), a long and demanding ascent through high mountain terrain. With sustained effort, iconic roads and wide-open alpine views, the route requires careful pacing before the final climb back to Vaujany. This timed race is part of the global GFNY series.

The medium course

  • 43 km / 1,800 m of elevation gain
Shorter but still highly demanding, this route offers a great introduction to the GFNY experience in an accessible format. Starting from Vaujany (1,245 m), riders head towards the Col de la Croix de Fer via Le Rivier d’Allemont. After passing Lac de Grand’Maison, the descent into the valley is followed by the final climb back to the station and its famous hairpin bends. A challenging and scenic route, with no ranking or competitive classification.
